    Hello fellow readers,

I’ve recently gone through an absolutely devastating breakup of a long term relationship, and am struggling to get back into reading even though I really want to!

I’m usually a big fiction reader but have just lost my groove lately with recent events and my mental health suffering.

Some of my favourite authors are Harlan Coben, Mary Kubica, Christian White, Karin Slaughter, JP Delaney. However, my usual books are feeling a bit too dark at the moment.. on the flip side, I also enjoy lighthearted books by random authors, but they’re all too romance focused for me right now and it feels too heartbreaking to read. I enjoy Colleen Hoover books usually but they’re usually very relationship focused.
I’m not into sci-fi or fantasy.

I just want to be able to throw myself into a book and am so frustrated that I can’t get into anything at the moment.

I realise this is a difficult request haha but if anyone has any suggestions for an easy read that’s not too dark but also not too focused on relationships/romance, I’d really appreciate it!

    Thanks in advance

I’m so sorry to hear about the breakup. I have so very been there. What about Writers & Lovers by Lily King? It’s fairly light and touches on love and coming of age without being twee. Also maybe memoir could get you up and out of the funk? Chronology of Water by Lidia Yukanovich pretty much changed/saved my life, it’s gorgeous. If you wanna get weird and wild but still grapple with some of these themes, maybe The Pisces by Melissa Broder? These suggestions are all over the place but so is heartbreak, I guess. Good luck!!
