    Hey there!
So up front, I’ve never been a huge book worm. That’s an understatement really. I’ll go spans of a year or more not reading a book, until I find something that hooks me then I’ll consume 9 books in a series over the course of months, then go back to not reading. I was better when I was younger, but I don’t know, it’s been harder as an adult and I’ve been trying to change that.

I’ve been getting into space operas and hard sci-fi over the last decade or so, “The Expanse” series really kind of kicked off my interest with how they pay some mind to physics and just the huge world building that goes into these epics. I recently finished “Revelation Space” by Alistair Reynolds (loved it), but my used book store doesn’t have the next book in the series yet, so I picked up “The Foundation” Series by Asimov while I wait. Saying the change in writing style has given me whiplash would be an understatement!

Initially, I thought Asimov wrote in Russian and I was reading translated texts, so I kind of just waived it off as lost in translation, but I just learned that Isaac Asimov writes in English! I really *want* to get into these books, and they are short enough that I may be able to power through the series, but I was just wondering, do other people struggle with his writing style? Does it grow on you or change up as you get deeper into his works?

I’m only about 1/4 of the way through the first novel in this series, so maybe I’m jumping the gun a bit, but I was just introduced to a character that talks like Kripke from The Big Bang Theory and Jesus was I struggling to read his parts haha. The accent was written so pronounced that I think I spent 30 seconds each on about 10% of his words just trying to figure out what the word was supposed to be. I started reading it without the accent, or just with a slight creole accent because it was taking me too long to get through the chapter.

Anyways, thoughts on Isaac Asimov’s writing style? I know he is regarded as a big sci-fi author, but for those into sci-fi (and more specifically, Asimov), do you actually enjoy his writing style, or is it more the substance of his books that keeps you coming back?
