Hello, a friend of mine and I have been talking about some crime statistics lately and came to a discussion about prison sentences. More precisely about what time to serve for what crime, if it would be more effective to sent people to prison until they reach a certain age rather than giving them just an x amount of years etc.
I startet to research a bit and I was kinda hook on some questions, like:
– why does one resort to crime (other than the „obvious“ cases e.g. stealing bread because you’re poor and hungry);
– why do some persons who were abused find themselves committing a crime/ why do some persons break the cycle and live a crime free life;
– is it important to detect the reason that lead a person to the committing a crime to help said person to rehabilitate and to leave that stuff behind
– are there general patterns when it comes to criminals (e.g. hurt people hurt people)
Does somebody know a book that takes a dive in the listet points or similar themes? Or generally about what pushes people to resort to criminal actions etc.
Thanks in advance 🙏 (if there is an already similar threat/ post on this sub I apologise and would gladly look at it)
