I read Thistlefoot by GennaRose Nethercott, and I’m not going to lie, I liked seeing some Jewish representation that wasn’t heavily religious.

See also, A Half Built Garden by Ruthanna Emerys

I guess Fleischmann is in Trouble by Taffy Brodessner-Akner as well.

Speculative fiction is a bonus, but not required

      “Milk fed” by Melissa Broder

      “Shmutz” by Felicia Berliner

“We all want impossible things” by Catherine Newman

“This is where I leave you” by Jonathan Tropper

    2. **Spinning Silver** by Naomi Novik has a Jewish protagonist in a fantasy setting.

**Ninth House** by Leigh Bardugo also has a Jewish protagonist. It doesn’t play a huge role in the story but it’s unmistakably there. The setting is paranormal/urban fantasy of the more unsettling kind.

If you’re not opposed to reading young adult fiction, I was impressed with the setting of **Ballad & Dagger** by Daniel José Older.
It is set in a fictional neighbourhood which is a melting pot of Santería, Jewish and Caribbean pirate culture and it is described so vividly that you feel like you have visited it. The genre is some kind of mythological urban fantasy.

All three books reflect the authors’ own heritage.

Do you recommend *Thistlefoot* and the other books you mentioned?
