Forget that I didn’t like it and it was not my cup of tea but there were THREE instances of “Would of” instead of “Would’ve/would have” and look, english is not my first language but I’ve been taught it my whole life so for me grammar is important because I was graded on it and my biggest pet peeve is when people use “Would OF” instead of “would’ve”
Am I missing something? Is there some english slang I just don’t get?

I don’t know the context but if it’s used in dialogue then that’s fine; it isn’t correct grammar but people do get that wrong, so if a character says it arguably that’s just realism
As far as I remember, that book is a first person narrative. The main character hasn’t had a typical education so it is quite possible that she would speak like that. So the usage is deliberate rather than an accidental error.
