Can you suggest me fiction books about a character struggling with the loss of their mother? I want a book that will shatter me to pieces. If it was a classic, that’d be awesome, but I don’t mind the modern.
I also need books that are depressing, full of real human feelings, and depth. Some of the books that I like are: Frankenstein, The Brothers Karamazov, Crime and Punishment, No Longer Human, and The Setting Sun by Osamu Dazai. Thank you very much.

Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner and Wild by Cheryl Strayed are monumental maternal grief books. They are emotionally ruinous, especially H Mart. As far as generally depressing books, My Year of Rest and Relaxation will trump all.
A Little Life
A monster calls by Patrick Ness
The ones who walk away from the Omelas
A Short Stay in Hell by Steven L. Peck
The Secret History by Donna Tartt
Please Look After Mom by Kyung-sook Shin
Not about maternal loss but Every Last One by Anna Quindlen definitely fits the category of books that emotionally wreck you.
