I just finished the book and wanted to hear y’all’s thoughts on this. I’ll mark the rest as a spoiler, because it’s all spoilers.
>!For a good portion of the book I had this theory that the Bunnies aren’t real people. Like, they create their Darlings by making bunny heads explode. Now what about the daylight campus beheadings that weren’t resolved? Samantha has the ability to create life-like… DarlingPlusses? from animals other than bunnies, so it could be possible, someone – Samantha herself? – also created the Bunnies, earlier on in the Process when head exploding was still necessary, from the people that were beheaded? Then again, they specifically talked about it beheading incidents in the city, which must look very different from a head that exploded.!<
>!Anyway, my theory would be that the Bunnies have been created in these beheading incidents and then proceeded to make worse versions of this process? Like in this we-all-live-in-a-simulation-theory where us creating video games and simulations with worse graphics and logic is a sign we are a lesser copy of an entity one step above us?!<
