Whenever I open YouTube I am being recommended with a few book or movie analysis videos and every time I watch them I feel really blind and oblivious. I am mainly talking about basic character development, how an antagonist is often times symbolizing a “shadow” part of the hero’s character, metaphors, or underlying philosophical themes.

So my question is: how can I get better at spotting these things? If someone could recommend a book about that for example, that would be really great.
