PROTAGONIST***
Think, menial job. Or they took the path less travelled by.
Teachers. Nurses. Unconventional jobs, etc. Piano player. Bartender. Basketball coach. Barista. Wallflower type characters. Farmer. Tailor. The list is endless.
I hate that all of these are tied to EMPLOYMENT but the baseline is that they have a rich and valid human experience and are probably looked down upon in society, or their family. At the core they are truely remarkable but that’s what the plot unpacks eventually perhaps.

Not exactly tied to employment, because society has already collapsed, but the request reminded me of Tetley Abednego from The Past is Red by Catherynne M Valente.
