Hello. Some of my favorite books in this genre are those written by Steven Erikson, George R.R. Martin, Tad Williams, Juliet Marillier, and, of course, Tolkien.

Does anybody know of any authors with that kind of quality writing? Thank you!

Have you tried Patrick Rothfuss? The Name of the Wind is the most amazing fantasy written in a generation.

I don’t see Robin Hobb on your list.

Why isn’t Robin Hobb on your list??

Read some Robin Hobb. Trust me, when you do, she will be on your list.

I quite like Guy Gavriel Kay for magical fantasy that has anchors in various historical Eurasian cultures. Start with Sailing to Sarantium.

Brandon Sanderson. Try Mistborn : The Final Empire or Elantris, if those are good for you, his entire collection is fantastic.

He also finished the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. Also highly recommended.

Megan Whalen Turner’s [*The Thief*](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/448873.The_Thief), which is the first book in [the Queen’s Thief series](https://www.goodreads.com/series/43514-the-queen-s-thief).

      >The king’s scholar, the magus, believes he knows the site of an ancient treasure. To attain it for his king, he needs a skillful thief, and he selects Gen from the king’s prison. The magus is interested only in the thief’s abilities. What Gen is interested in is anyone’s guess. Their journey toward the treasure is both dangerous and difficult, lightened only imperceptibly by the tales they tell of the old gods and goddesses.

[*Sabriel* by Garth Nix](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/518848.Sabriel), the first book in [the Old Kingdom series](https://www.goodreads.com/series/195520-the-old-kingdom)

      >Sent to a boarding school in Ancelstierre as a young child, Sabriel has had little experience with the random power of Free Magic or the Dead who refuse to stay dead in the Old Kingdom. But during her final semester, her father, the Abhorsen, goes missing, and Sabriel knows she must enter the Old Kingdom to find him.
