My friend and I read books together. Generally 50 pages a week (we’re both in grad school so this is about all we can manage lol) and then we call each other and chat about what we read.
We’ve done a good mix of books. Lots of sci fi or fantasy or horror or gothic novels and novellas, a handful of historical fiction or mythology-related novels, and most recently we did Pride and Prejudice (which was genuinely not a good pick for this type of format because some weeks, all we would have to talk about is a side character having dinner with their aunt or something. I don’t think either of us enjoyed it).
This time we’re looking for something that moves a little faster and will give us something to actually talk about every week. Whether that’s clues for a mystery that we can speculate about, big dramatic events and reveals, or enough juicy interpersonal drama that we can successfully talk shit about characters and what they did or said.
Looking for a more recent release to cleanse ourselves from pride and prejudice lol.
Any recommendations? Ideally not straight up mystery or detective, but something of another genre that has a good twist or some good big reveals could be fun.
We both also really enjoyed The Locked Tomb books.

Foucault’s Pendulum, by Umberto Eco
If you want to discuss it every through weeks I’d recommend true crime books, I had a book club and whilst I didn’t like the book chosen, we had an endless amount to discuss
