I’m on the hunt for a good thriller/mystery that I won’t be able to predict the ‘big twist’ 100 pages before it happens. I’ve always been a massive fan of thrillers and mystery books but have been reading them since I was 13 and feel like I’ve worked out the format all too well, so I ended up getting bored of them. I recently started yearning for the genre again and picked up The Housemaid by Freida McFadden on multiple recommendations, and although I flew through it very quickly, I still worked it all out before the reveal. So any recommendations in this area would be greatly appreciated 😊

“A Simple Plan” by Scott Smith. Not really a mystery, but I enjoyed it.
Go old-school: *The Eight* by Katherine Neville. It’s a one-hit wonder from the ’80s that is truly completely batshit. Like Dan-Brown-on-meth kind of bonkers in a glorious way. Chess, classical music, ninja nuns in the French Revolution, secret red telephone in a kitchen cupboard, shipwrecks, car chases, antiquities black market, and a certain dictator of Libya. Highly enjoyable.
the best and most shocking mystery i’ve ever read is [**The Murder of Roger Ackroyd** by Agatha Christie](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16328)
my god, this story left my jaw on the floor. what an incredible writer.
