Stories where the prophecy is a lie?

I really hate when Chosen Ones are manipulated and controlled throughout the story and not only is it never addressed, it’s portrayed as a good thing because the bad guy is defeated in the end. Does anyone here know any books where the main character is portrayed as a Chosen One, only for the prophecy to turn out to be a lie? And then the main character is finally able to make choices of their own and fights the antagonist out of their own free will.
