Sorry if the title sounds dumb. But that’s about it. I am going through a very weird phase in life. I looked it up, but apparently there isn’t a term for something like that for people my age. So let’s just say it’s a crisis and I am currently doing way too much thinking. I am a huge fantasy nerd but enjoy books of other types too. I am also a closet romantic. But a very vocal enjoyer of happy endings. That’s about my usual.

Books that make you feel nice are recommended. Books that have had a positive or huge impact on you personally are also recommended. Any type of fiction and non-fiction will do. If you feel like you want to, drop two lines about why this book. Thank you.

    1. All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot – very happy fiction

Master and Commander by Patrick O’Brian – delightful characters

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman – every fantasy reader needs to read this (the audiobooks are amazing)

    2. Sheeeeenanigans on

Books that made me feel good:

*The Storied Life of AJ Fikry* – a wonderful story about book people.

*My Year of Rest and Relaxation* – My god, I loved this book, and I read it when I needed it most. Dive in to the unknown, wide awake.

*A Visit From the Goon Squad* – Normal people being beautifully, painfully, quirkily, sweetly, terrifically human.

*The Book of Form and Emptiness* – After his father dies, Benny begins hearing the voices of inanimate objects. Then his mother gets a hoarding problem. While seeking refuge in a library, “where objects are well-behaved,” he find his very own book. Man, I loved this story.

*Where’d You Go, Bernadette* – We all go a little crazy sometimes, and that’s okay.

*Action Park* – The true story of an amusement park in New Jersey in the 80s full of ridiculously dangerous (and frequently homemade) rides that caused so many injuries, the park was forced to subsidize its own ambulance service. Then they opened a water park! This book is FANTASTIC.

*Johannes Cabal the Necromancer* – This one is charming – and smart and funny – as hell. The characters made this story. Picking up this book each day was like checking in with friends to see how their traveling carnival – powered by a very bored Satan and manned by reanimated goofballs – was going.

I hope you find a book you love. ❤️

      Edit to add two more:

*Hollow Kingdom* – The zombie apocalypse told from the perspective of the pets left behind, specifically a domesticated crow named Shit Turd. This book is so funny and thoughtful and heartbreaking, but then it mends your poor heart and it’s just such a great read.

*The City We Became* – For the fantasy lover. “Every great city has a soul. New York City? She’s got six. But every city also has a dark side…” and NYC’s six souls have to stop that. It’s wonderful.
