I have no idea how else to say it. Not low-stakes, not high-stakes, but mid-stakes.
A story with enough shit going on to not be boring but also doesn’t have anything too heavy, crazy, or complex. Trying to get back into books after a long period without them and need something to ease me back in.
A couple examples I can think of that fit what I’m asking for:
– **A Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet** by Becky Chambers
– **Kaiju Preservation Society** by John Scalzi
Neither book is low-stakes by any means, but we’re not looking at George R.R. Martin levels of conflict and tragedy either.
