I’m making my way through Lonesome Dove for the first time (and really enjoying it) but my brain has a hard time focusing on one story for 900 pages. I find myself needing to break it up with things between parts. Mostly I’m looking for novellas or books that are so engaging, you don’t put them down until they’re finished, so I can take a day off of Lonesome Dove, read something all the way through, and then get back into it.
My taste is pretty broad. Happy with fantasy, romance, thrillers/mysteries, nonfiction, literary. Not a huge sci-fi fan but I can be convinced.
Books that I enjoyed that fit this description, and illustrate what I mean when I say broad tastes, are:
– The English Understand Wool by Helen DeWitt
– Pocket Atlas of Remote Islands by Judith Schalansky
– The Art Thief by Michael Finkel
– We Spread by Iain Reid
– Prosper’s Demon by KJ Parker
– The Murders of Molly Southbourne by Tade Thompson
– Lovelight Farms by BK Borison
