preferably just looking for a romance between an older lesbian couple, but honestly any will do. I feel a lot of the sapphic couples I read about tend to steer more towards the younger end, and as lesbian who’s 19 I definitely enjoy reading about books that surround discovering identity and young love, but I also really like reading about complexities with older characters. I just find I’m often more interested in / drawn to older protagonists in stories – so I’d like to blend the two. By middle-aged I mean over the age of 40 btw 😭 (last time I asked for a book centred around an older protagonist someone responded with a protagonist in their late 20s haha so I just wanna be clear with what I mean when I say middle aged lmao). Would be the perfect novel if it’s in a fantasy setting especially! 🙂 (but I really don’t mind, that’s incredibly specific haha)

I don’t think this fits all your criteria, but The Psychology of Time Travel by Kate Mascarenhas has some of these elements – a lesbian romance plus some fantastical elements.
Also try Carol by Claire Morgan / Patricia Highsmith if you haven’t already read it / seen the film.
These may not fit all the criteria because they both jump around in time, but the narration/current timeline the story is told from has the protagonists/couples in middle age.
Biography of X – Catherine Lacey (this was my favorite book of 2023)
Our Wives Under the Sea – Julia Armfield (not really fantasy/more body horror but has really interesting surrealist aspects to it)
It is not fantasy, and I haven’t read it yet but One Simple Refrain by Nancy Ann Healy is about two women in their 40s.
I need to think about possible fantasy recs, I’m stumped right now.
