Hey y’all, just as the title says I’m looking for a book to read for Halloween week that will make me look over my shoulder even in broad daylight. My wife is going out of town next week so I’ll have the house to myself and what better time to put on a horror audiobook on my speakers and scare the piss out of myself?

I’m fairly(?) well-versed in horror novels, I’ve read most of the classics like Frankenstein, Dracula, House on Haunted Hill, The Lottery etc. I’ve also read some HO Lovecraft (The Call of Cthulhu and Mountains of Madness), as well as some Poe but they didn’t quite have the kind of horror I was looking for; though they’re still good.

I’ve tried some gothic horror like The Elementals by McDowell, Usher’s Passing by McCammon and while I like the genre it’s not my favorite branch of horror, but love the big spooky haunted house vibe.

Stephen King is definitely what I’ve read the most of:

    -It

    -The Shining

    -Pet Semetary

    -Misery

    -Bag of Bones

    -Desperation

    -Salem’s Lot

    -Insomnia

    -Needful Things

I’ve read 20+ of his novels, but these are in the category of made me afraid to turn out the light. I’ve never tried a Bachman Book though, so that’s fair game.

My favorite genre of horror movie is the slasher and the haunted house for different reasons. The slasher for the unexpected jumpscare and zany deaths, haunted house for the impending sense of Dread.

I hear good things about Only Good Indians, but I have to admit i’m really at a loss for something that will really frighten me. So please, do your worst.
