I came across the book [“The Workes of that Famous Chirurgion Ambrose Parey/Paré”](https://www.google.ca/books/edition/The_Workes_of_that_Famous_Chirurgion_Amb/TzVbqmHLfGMC?hl=en) (spelling of his last name seems to vary) and have since become determined to get a physical copy. Since an original is literally thousands of dollars, I’ve been looking into facsimiles and there seems to primarily be the two publishers to choose from: Facsimile Publisher and Forgotten Books. I can’t really tell much about the quality of them, figure out things such as if they’re printed on paper with a tone that makes it appear aged instead of white paper, or find anything substantial in the way of reviews online. The colour PDF scan of the book is widely available for free, but I’m very much a physical books kind of person. I don’t know how well the text/illustrations appear if it’s just a scan converted to print in black and white – especially for the images. One of the publishers, Forgotten Books, has a preview of their PDF version and the vibe is completely different than the colour scan, which is what’s making me hesitate so much. Here’s a comparison of the PDF preview vs the scan you can read for free on google books for a page with text and illustration: https://imgur.com/XRDr8mj
**TL;DR**: Can a modern facsimile match the feel of reading an old book in terms of it looking like it’s on aged paper instead of looking like someone photocopied a book in black and white? And if so, what publisher accomplishes this?
