I’ve been reading a lot of very serious and informational books lately (a lot of history nonfiction). I’d like a book that will sweep me away on a fun romp or adventure to break the tedium of the books I’ve been reading (extra points if its a series). Any genre is fine! I love fantasy, sci-fi, contemporary, etc.

Maybe something from the Discworld series by Terry Pratchet?
If you’re open to middle grade fantasy, my favorite series is [Nevermoor](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/6a6d5ca1-b2f5-47be-828c-018144d3bbc7) by Jessica Townsend! It has really impressive worldbuilding, fun characters, and exciting whimsical writing.
I really like all of the Clive Cussler books and I’ve read some of the books of his collaborators. They have been good too. Action/Adventure books.
“Nice Dragons Finish Last” by Rachel Aaron, a fun romp through a fantasy cyberpunk setting!
Shogun by Clavell.
The Veronica Speedwell series by Deanna Raybourn is freaking DELIGHTFUL. The first one is called A Curious Beginning; I believe the series is up to #9. The audio books are great, too.
Master and Commander series is super fun and there’s about 20 of them.
Jack Vance.
*The Demon Princes* tells the story of Kirth Gersen’s journey of revenge against the crime lords who raided his home planet and enslaved its inhabitants.
Or *Planet of Adventure’s* tale of Adam Reith and his journey across the exotic planet Tschai, beset by the alien races who would stop him from returning home and alerting Earth of their presence.
Both are series, but are made up of 1960’s period appropriate slim volumes, so not that long in total, but great fun in that inimitable Vance style.
Name of the Wind and its sequel The Wise Man’s Fear by Patrick Rothfuss are incredible.
But just to warn you, the last book of the trilogy hasn’t been released yet and its been like 13 years… so the lack of closure has been torture.
Green Rider by Kristen Britain is definitely an adventure!
The Road to Neverwinter by Jaleigh Johnson. Particularly if you’re into dungeons and dragons at all or enjoyed the d&d movie. It’s the prequel but you could totally read and enjoy the adventure without having watched the movie before
Pirate Latitudes by Micheal Chricton is a quick, thrilling read. Project Hail Mary is amaze. Reamde was pretty good.
Try:
Rivers of London;
The Martian;
The Luna series by Ian Mcdonald;
Reamde by Neal Stephenson;
Theft of Fire by Devon Erikson;
{{1632 by Eric Flint}}.
{{Conquistador by S. M. Stirling}}
Not stereotypical adventure but adventurous and funny regardless: Spud by John van der Ruit
