I am Masters college student and for the next one and a half year I have the access to a world class library of our college with wide range of subjects (I spent my first sem in nose deep in my niche academics). How do I start to read? I am a good reader, good student even. But recently I have come to a halt. I can best describe the halt as a brake that I had to apply from burnout. But now that brake has turned into somewhat laziness and a nagging and bugging problem of my mind.

I want to explore all the subjects offered in the library from information theory to philosophy to Civics But my mind keeps on saying “why read if you are going to eventually forget?” I know this is not a rational statement, it’s just an escape mechanism my mind is employing to keep in the comfort of doomscrollint. But how do I combat this?

I want to start reading again but the mentality of “you’ll eventually forget” or “why read X subject, it’s not even your domain, that knowledge will never be used” is stopping me. I have thought of keeping a journal of all the books I read but that dosent seem feasible, and also my mind chimes again “you want to read so many books, how are you going to write down that much?”.

Can someone help me with this mental block?
