How about something short and simple like [Pogo Planet](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CW1HLDNL)? Its a science fiction short published in the early 1940s. That might fit the bill.

I think Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy might be easier than Hyperion…

Hyperion is rather complex for a newcomer to English. For easy-to-read sci-fi, I’d try Foundation by Isaac Asimov and other novels by him.

Ray Bradbury’s The Martian Chronicles is a classic that is very accessibly written. Anything by Edmond Hamilton or Harry Harrison should be very readable as well.
Hyperion is definitely a bit more challenging than those.
