I’ve got a lot of Amazon Digital Credits that are about to expire. I’d like to throw them at some under-appreciated self-published SF authors.
I’m a big fan of SF mysteries, particularly noir mysteries.
Fredric Brown is my favorite author of all time and I’ve read basically all of his novels (both mystery and SF) and am working my way through his short stories.
I love authors who out-think me in their writing. Fair play mysteries are great when everything clicks into place at the end.
I’m not a fan of incompetent main characters or those who are overwhelmed with insecurity. I’m not looking for a perfect protagonist, but someone whose internal monologue isn’t filled with self-doubt.
I’m also not a fan of politics in my novels. A huge percentage are heavy handed and I hate being preached at, regardless of whether I agree with the position or not.
Short and sweet is better than overly long. Novellas & short novels are my preferred lengths.
For context, I’ve enjoyed these recently:
* *The Galactic Effectuator* by Jack Vance
* *The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August* by Claire North
* *Razzmatazz* by Christopher Moore
* *Sunglasses After Dark* by Nancy A. Collins
* *Judge Dee mysteries* by Lavie Tidhar
Who should I look into?
