I finished it last night and was absolutely enraptured the whole time. It’s been a long, long time since I’ve read a book that was so moving and important but also such a delight and just so *enjoyable* to be reading. Even the parts that were wrenching or hard were beautiful. The way she plays with language and perspective was breathtaking.
I kicked it down my Libby queue and kept on hitting “deliver later” for about two months because I was coming off of some long and intensive books and didn’t feel like getting into another, but it completely hooked me from the first.
Now to read the original — I just downloaded David Copperfield.

The audiobook narrator did an incredible job as well getting the accent perfectly.
I’m reading it right now and have gotten totally sucked in. It reminds me of my childhood in many ways, not all good.
