    Here is the line from the fourth chapter; it is about Raskolnikov’s mother:

    “And mother too, why should she be so lavish? What will she have by the time she gets to Petersburg? Three silver roubles or two ‘paper ones’ as she says…. that old woman… hm. What does she expect to live upon in Petersburg afterwards?”

    The “she” that is italicized near the end (“that old woman”) could refer to the pawnbroker or his mother. However, I don’t recall the pawnbroker ever using the term “paper ones”.
