Hey, I’m in a reading slump and i want to read something non-fiction. I don’t like reading self help books, but I’d like to read good psychology books, books of Sigmund Freud or his likes. But i have also never read anything of this genre so I’d like to start easy. Thanks!

Theories Of Personality by Richard M. Ryckman
It is a textbook and covers psychologist like Freud, Jung, Skinner, etc. You mentioned Freud and I wouldn’t get too much into thinking that he is what Psychology is despite his famous reputation. This is a field with a lot of theorist and a lot of controversy and Freud is generally looked down upon with in more scientific/empirical psychological areas.
This textbook would teach you to think about and evaluate the validity of all these different psychologist and their differing ideas. It isn’t going to be a deep dive into anything but it will give you glimpses of different people you may be interested in pursuing further.
I’m not sure if the newer editions would get involved more with the type of research that is down with fMRI and other brain scanning technologies. Some people find this area controversial as it tries to map parts of the brain to particular parts of human life. Nevertheless it is an interesting area.
There are also other divisions beyond this Textbook that is Personality focused. You have things like Developmental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology (which enjoys computer metaphors and gets tied into AI work), Abnormal Psychology, Physiological Psychology (which is not just the structure of brains but neurochemistry such as serotonin), Social Psychology (which isn’t far removed from Sociology), Behaviorism, Educational Psychology, and Humanistic Psychology. Freud is primarily a clinician/therapist who worked with individual patients of exceptional temperaments. It was usually an upper-class clientele (therapy is not cheap) with various neurotic behaviors that immobilized them in society and led to anxiety/depression and dysfunction. A major complain of Freud is he developed global theories to explain human behavior from a very small subset of the population.
My second recommendation beyond a general textbook here is Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman

I know it is popular and well liked becoming a best seller. It is more in the area of Cognitive Psychology and the the problems are brains have in processing the world correctly. It isn’t a self-help book but it does show you how easy it is for humans to think sloppily and get things wrong. It covers a large number of cognitive biases that are fascinating to know, even for those who aren’t interested in psychology
