    Above question.

For me it was Piers Anthony’s A Spell for Chameleon. As I was reading the book I started to get wise as to what Bink’s magical gift was. But I really didn’t expect for his magical gift to be as nuanced and clever as it was. It was such a big reveal I immediately read the book again and appreciated it even more, with a much greater appreciation of the events that transpired and the people Bink meets.

Also Piers really did keep it going in later books with Bink’s cameos and I also really loved how thought out Dor’s magical gift

Last mention since I can totally nerd out about this book series was how great Humphrey was.

    Thank you.

    1. Patrick Obrien’s Aubrey Maturin books. Brilliantly aware of life in the napoleonic years.

      Also, they were all drunks.
