I’m looking for Japanese (?) books similar to Kitchen (Banana Yoshimoto) and Heaven (Mieko Kawakami), but without all the grimness that Heaven had. Kitchen was a pretty good read for me but for some reason I found it a bit slow paced at some parts.
I really enjoyed the narration and diction in Heaven, especially from the first person point of view. The book left a bad taste in my mouth however due to the sad ending and graphic content. I’m looking for something similar but without the grimness that Heaven had.
I’m fine with struggles and crises in the characters, but I’m mainly looking for something that has an innocent happy ending, something that “feels good” to help me escape from the real world. Possibly another coming of age story?
Sorry if my descriptions sound stupid

It’s a fantasy book but you might enjoy Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree.
