I prefer sci-fi and fantasy but I’m open to whatever genre. The thing is, usually one or both of the characters is a jerk or the book revels in it’s “moral greyness” (explicit evil). I do like problematic characters, I like Catra a lot, but I don’t like how most fiction handles them. I’m not a fan of Gideon the 9th or Luminous Dark. I really would like charismatic leads — who probably get along but it isn’t 100% necessary.
I enjoy the main characters in I’m in Love With the Villainess, although it doesn’t have the best writing they’re still fun.
I would really prefer to avoid drug addiction, alcoholism, parental abuse, or romantic drama as main plot points but I can tolerate it if the book is good.
