This year I’ve read exclusively sci fi: Crichton, Stephenson, Tchaikovsky, and I’m on the final book in *The Expanse*. I will probably finish that this week.

I’m looking to pivot out of the sci fi genre. I don’t want to get tired of it. But I’m worried about falling into a rut after I finish this long (to me) series.

    What I’m looking for:
    – fiction
    – firmly set in our world
    – preferably set within the last 30-40 years (80s-present)
    – preferably written in the last 15 years
    – less than 400 pages

Possible genres and topics: mystery, coming of age, tech industry, college campus settings (pref from a professor’s POV), LGBTQ, slice of life, but I’m open to anything.

Really, I’d love to hear everyone’s recs for short-ish (250-400 pages) fiction set in the recent past or present. Anything will do, I’ll check out all of them! I just need a list to consult when I finish this book. Thanks in advance!
