I just finished the first law trilogy, and while I absolutely loved it and thought there were some hilarious moments, I still need something very different and easy to read before I continue on
I tried continuing the scholomance trilogy that I started way back when the first book came out, but I wasn’t really having fun with the way the plot continued and I don’t really want to keep at it
That said, I was hoping for recommendations?
What I want is something fun and engrossing. For me this usually means overpowered main characters (ie progressive fantasy like Cradle, or something kind of dumb but fun like the king’s dark tidings), or a cool magic system and likable characters (ie most of sanderson’s books)
Ideally it’s would be a one off or a trilogy/shorter series. I don’t want a 13 book long commitment.
I prefer science fiction or fantasy
I read a lot, so anything very obvious I have already read. Some notable ones (in no particular order or reason but mostly to just avoid people’s favorite recs):
Harry Potter (which I do not f with anymore for terf reasons)
Almost all of the Sanderson books (man can’t do wrong imo)
Cradle
Red rising
Kings dark tidings
Malazan
Gideon the 9th and the rest of that series
Robin hobb
The expanse
Licanius trilogy
The faithful and the fallen
Wayward children
A few different Jim butcher series (hate this guy’s books tbh)
Magician by Feist
Cassandra Clare
Middlegame and its sequel
Most of Ve schwab (not that I particularly loved any of them either)
Most naomi novik
Tia for any recs!
Edit: I’m fine with almost any subgenre, but I usually don’t like middle grade, humor, urban fantasy, or romance. (Not that I don’t like books WITH these things, I just usually don’t like them as a major genre in the books)

If you want another fantastic middle grade fantasy series that gave me the same feeling Harry Potter used to (and is written by a queer anti-transphobia author), I highly highly highly recommend [Nevermoor](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/6a6d5ca1-b2f5-47be-828c-018144d3bbc7) by Jessica Townsend!
The Scholomance series by Naomi Novik! It’s perfect for scratching that Harry Potter itch, except it’s pretty damn queer
Maybe give {{Space Opera by Catherynne M. Valente}} a try.
Sorry, it’s kind of a commitment, but you might like Dungeon Crawler Carl?
I’m actually wrapping up the First Law Triology, enjoying it.
Previously I finished the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown, very good series and main character but maybe not “light” if that’s what your looking for.
I’m thinking of trying by Brandon Sanderson next as his books are well reviewed. The Mistborn Saga or The Stormlight Archive series.
Retribution Falls, Phillip Pullmans his dark materials, Terry Goodkinds Wizards First Rule.
