I love the general story and concept of Frankenstein, but the frame work of the book is poorly done in my opinion. The whole book is a very long letter from captain Walton to his sister writing verbatim what Victor is telling him. It’s a very weird and off putting thing to be reading something that sounds like first person character narration but then realizing it’s not because it’s a character dictating another character’s words and emotions. And it’s also odd that at no point during Victors story Walton never interrupts him to ask questions, like going into detail about how he created the monster which victor doesn’t mention until the end.
Like I said I adore the idea of Frankenstein, but I don’t find the book engaging because it makes what I think should be a very personal story pretty hollow from the way it’s delivered.
