Hello fellow readers! I am seeking advice on how to drive engagement with my book club.
Last November I decided to start a book club with some friends. We are international so I decided it would be a Zoom book club but I have hosted a few gatherings here at my house for potential new members who are local. I chose two books to get us started and one member of the club suggested a third book which is a short read. So we had/have books for January, March and April and for Feb we watched a documentary on the publishing industry.
However I am really struggling to get the members to engage with the book club. I have had several members reach out and say they are really busy right now but will join in the next meeting.. and then don’t show. I know online book clubs are trickier to run than local clubs but I can’t get people to even show up to tell me what I’m doing wrong! In the fall (my spring and summer are very busy) I am thinking of keeping the online format for my international friends but try to add more local events and try to add people who are local. But for now I want to keep my core group of friends and the online format and try to improve it as it is.
