    Hello!

I’m looking for a nice horror book with some spooky fall vibes, but I am extremely picky with the themes/tropes I like in my horror.

I like horror based in realism – that means no ghosts, no zombie pets or vampires or anything paranormal in nature that isn’t grounded. The Haunting of Hill House is an exception because of the way it subverts the haunted house trope in unexpected ways.

Examples of horror media I really like are: Early seasons of Black Mirror, Midsommar, Parasite. I haven’t gotten a chance to find many good horror books yet that fit this theme; most horror fiction I can find is too unrealistic for my tastes. I really like cults and creepy communities and towns where everything is just “off”.

I’d really like some recommendations with a fall/harvest vibe if possible! Thanks y’all!

Please, NO Stephen King recommendations, I am very much not a fan of his work.

    1. You might enjoy Briardark by S.A Harian. It’s described as a mix of Survival and cosmic horror. I think you might enjoy it because there are no classical monsters – it’s rather a slow, atmospheric story that does not necessarily give away if there’s anything paranormal happening at all. But it’s creepy and weird – you just know something is wrong without knowing what 🙂
