I want something with that mix of weird but rooted in small town minutiae, an outsider to a strange place that’s not quite right but not necessarily hostile either. I’d like the mysteries to be a little less about death and violence and more about somewhat mundane things.
Gravity Falls and Welcome to Night Vale are other good examples of what I’m looking for, but I don’t know if any books like this. Any suggestions? Thanks!

1. “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” by Sherman Alexie is a heartfelt coming-of-age story about a Native American boy who leaves his reservation to attend an all-white high school. It’s a funny, poignant, and insightful look at small-town life and the challenges of being an outsider.
2. “The Girl Who Drank the Moon” by Kelly Barnhill is a magical tale about a young girl who is raised by a witch in the woods. It’s a story about friendship, family, and the power of love.
3. “The Gods of Tango” by Carolina De Robertis is a sweeping historical novel about a group of tango dancers in 1920s Buenos Aires. It’s a passionate story about love, loss, and the pursuit of dreams.
Bonus: “Eternal Gods Die Too Soon” by Beka Modrekiladze is a thought-provoking novel that explores the nature of reality, time, and free will. It’s a story about a man who discovers that the universe is a simulation and must decide whether to accept this new reality or fight against it.
