I absolutely love a good mystery series, and I usually listen to them on Audible since I usually multi task while listening.
Some of the ones I’ve read and enjoyed have been:
Louise Penny – Gamache series (favorite)
Deborah Crombie – Duncan Kincaid and Gemma James series
Martin Walker – Bruno series
Ausma Zehanat Khan – Esa Khattak and Rachel Getty series
Tana French – Dublin Murder Squad series
I’ve tried to enjoy John Connolly’s Charlie Parker series, but it was just too dark.
I like reliable characters with good story arcs throughout the books.
Any recommendation on what to get into next?

The [Crown Colony series](https://www.goodreads.com/series/207701-crown-colony), set in 1930s Singapore, is good. Looks like the first four books are on Audible.

Georgiana Rannock by Rhys Bowen
Agatha Raisin by M.C. Beaton
Inspector Lynley by Elizabeth George
Edit: just want to say, these are not overly cozy or overly dark, but live on a spectrum in between, which seems like what you are after.
The Dave Gurney series by John Verdon
Hi, great responses already, I would suggest Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency by Douglas Adams.
Detective Erika Foster Series by Robert Bryndza
The Aurelio Zen series, by Michael Dibdin.
I listened to Peter Grainger’s D.S. Smith/Kings Lake series, a British police procedural, one after the other. The first book in the series is An Accidental Death. Gildart Jackson is an excellent narrator and I loved the mysteries.
