Yesterday I talked about the fact that some writers in Portugal are considered gods in the towns where they were born.

But another interesting thing is the existence of shrines dedicated to them!

I live in a town named Oeiras where we have a shrine dedicated to multiple poets and a temple dedicated to poetry.

The shrine has multiple [statues](https://www.oeiras.pt/documents/20124/156928/escultora+-+Fernando+Pessoa.JPG/141cf943-0555-bd5d-ac6a-635ceb161697?t=1615918079518) and other features related to the world of portuguese poetry, I think poetry fans would love to go there.

Now returning to the question, are there any poetry shrines around the world that are worth knowing?

    1. They aren’t really shrines, because they are the actual grave sites, but Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Louisa May Alcott are all buried pretty close together on what’s known as Author’s Ridge in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord, Massachusetts.

I’m currently reading The Scarlet Letter and I live close by, so I might read the last chapter at Hawthorne’s grave.

    2. Oscar Wilde’s tomb in Paris has been locked behind plexiglass because some many people visited it and kissed it that the lipstick was degrading the stone.

Also in Paris is the Pantheon, which is a temple to & burial place of great French citizens, including many literary figures such as Victor Hugo, Voltaire, Alexander Dumas (only recently relocated there) and Simon Veil.
