Hey all! I just read “Convenience Store Woman” and “Earthlings” and absolutely loved them both – Sayaka Murata’s become one of my new favorite authors, and I hope to read her short story collection soon. (Here’s hoping her other work gets translated into English.)
I’d love to read more work with a similar vibe; unconventional (especially female) protagonists, societal critique and exploration of the mundane/normal world, being weird and unsettling on purpose but not just doing things for the sake of shock value, compelling character drama, the writing style that has some very raw lines but isn’t overly flowery or self-indulgent.
