Not entirely sure how to word it in the title but I’m looking for a book where the main protagonist’s mental state is altered (possibly to the point of insanity) by some sort of otherworldly non-human outside force. Whether it’d be alien parasites (referencing Infection by Scott Sigler which spurred me to make this post), demons, angels, ghosts, the will of a sword embedded with the soul of an old malevolent sorcerer.
Just not the run of the mill stuff like mental illness.
Mentioning demons and ghosts, I should probably say that I’m not too interested in your typical demon/ghost possession exorcism type of storyline like The Exorcist for example. I don’t mind a good possession book if you have something unique in mind.
