So, I noticed that while I’m reading a book I’m always searching for the “moral message” that the author is trying to send.

I feel like I do have to point out I usually only go for classics, so I do kind of feel the pressure to grasp what made the book I’m reading into a classic. What people throughout history got and learned from it.

Is it a bad/flawed way to approach a book?

And if so, should it be?

I often feel like it’s pretty pointless to write a story if you have nothing to say (probably also because I just can’t see books as pure escapism as other people do).

Basically, if there’s nothing I’m going to learn from it the story is just “Character does things”.

I realize I am leaving out a ton of thing, but I can’t help the way that I think
