I don’t know if it’s like this for anyone else, but I’ve noticed that as I get older, I find it hard to read some books for younger audiences. Ones I’ve already read like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson are fine, but every time I’ve tried picking up a new Juvenile or Young Adult book in recent years, they are just super hard to get through got me. I feel like the books are almost dumbed down at times. The juvenile books would make sense for this, but I feel like the YA books used to be a lot more advanced. I read the Heroes of Olympus series when I was 20 (I’m now 23), so not that long ago, but it feels a lot less dumbed down than new young adult books coming out right now.
Does anyone have an explanation on why this may be? Am I just not in the right mind set to enjoy them anymore?
