first, I just want to say wow. That was an incredibly difficult and sensitive topic to handle but the author did a fantastic job of portraying it. The story felt so real to me, it was so tragically clear that the author was drawing on her own experiences. I was left feeling heartbroken, angry, and contemplative about some of my own experiences as a young woman. In the back of the book, the author writes about how this book was written for her younger self, which I definitely can see, but as I mentioned before, it spoke to my younger self as well. in my instance, it was never anything as extreme as what the mc went through but there were portions that were so sickeningly real, the manipulation, the gaslighting, the guilted consent (which is still in my eyes non consent), the way the men never leave. this book is going to stick with me for the rest of my life. If you can stomach it, it’s a must read. and for anyone saying it romanticises aspects of age gap relationships and abuse, I beg you to either read a little bit about the author, gain some critical thinking skills, or both lol. anyway, I know it’s a pretty popular book, but if youre thinking about reading it please just do it. will I be reading again? probably not, simply because it’s so heavy.
