I’ve noticed Atlas Shrugged has come up a lot on here the last couple of months. Predictably, much scorn and ridicule has been heaped on the book and author. Yet it is considered on of the most important books of the 20th century, and widely and vocally admired.
I read both Atlas Shrugged and Anthem long, long ago. I was young, and despite them being dry and long, and having many views I strait just did not believe myself (and which these books did not do much to convince me of otherwise), I never felt like I was struggling through them. In fact, many books I had to read for school or chose to read to expand my horizons/be well read, were far, far worse than Atlas Shrugged,IMO.

QUESTIONS
1.)
I know why most of you on this sub don’t like it. Overall the reasons given are valid and understandable. But I don’t get the extent of how over-the-top the criticism seems.
Is it mainly the political/social messaging that ruins the whole package?
Is the story itself especially bad?
Would it be somehow better if it was shorter?
2.)
Did anyone like Atlas Shrugged (or Anthem too, why not)?
Did anyone like parts of it, if not overall?
Or could you see aspects of it you would like if a few things were changed?

Now l, I get why you don’t like it. I’d prefer if you didn’t just vent the same lines and criticism we’ve all read on here, but I’m not your daddy, do what you want. I think if you could couch your criticism in regards to my two questions it would be interesting.
