Suggest me a book where a time traveler is traumatized for that they see

I was reading a very bad book about a woman who travels to Viking times and she falls in love with the jarl. She sees rape and slavery and minds about it like five minutes, then she DECIDES to stay there where she is rich and has lots of enslaved people to serve her and her family.

Don’t get me wrong, I think humans are perfectly capable of adaptating, isn’t that what we are known for? But still, it’s too much. Most people would go mad in that situation.

So I was wondering if you have any suggestions on books where this is way more traumatic. “Realistic”. I don’t care whether it’s a (let’s day) a Viking guy coming to modern times or viceversa. Thank you very much.
