Brought books up from storage to find a mouse got into the container and lived with my books for some time. Pretty devastated to find my only books from childhood covered in poo and really am hoping theres a way to recover
🙁 could i hire a professional for this? Are the inside pages still affected even if its only on covers?

    1. Mice droppings can infect you with the hantavirus, so be careful. It’s best to disinfect affected areas but I know that’s difficult with books. You should definitely wear gloves and a mask, then clean the covers and everything as best as you can with disinfectant (best google which ones are effective). And then put the books in direct sunlight and fresh air for some days, even better if it’s currently warm/summer where you live and you can put them somewhere outside. I could imagine that artificial UV light could help as well but I don’t know for sure which wavelength etc it should be.

But if you aren’t sure consulting an expert is definitely a good idea!
