I’d love to read some books where the main character is a teacher (or a tutor, professor, governess, etc.), especially if their teaching life is part of the story – where we learn about their students, watch them engage in their daily tasks, learn about their struggles teaching something, etc.

My favorite genres are sci-fi, thrillers, and mysteries. I also like slice-of-life stories, mild horror, adventure stories, urban fantasy, and 19th century gothic romance. In terms of nonfiction, I like career-focused memoirs and books with lots of anecdotes to illustrate various principles.

    My favorite books and authors:

    – Kelley Armstrong
    – Stephen King
    – The Appeal by Janice Hallett
    – Kim Stanley Robinson
    – The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
    – Ted Chiang
    – Doomsday Book by Connie Willis
    – Andy Weir
    – Recursion by Blake Crouch (didn’t care for his other work)
    – Wanderers by Chuck Wendig (again, didn’t care for his other work)
    – Room by Emma Donoghue
    – the Sookie Stackhouse series
    – Harry Potter
    – Chronicles of Narnia
    – Mary Roach

I don’t tend to enjoy very melodramatic or solipsistic books (e.g. Educated by Tara Westover, A Gentleman in Moscow), books with a silly, irreverent sense of humor (e.g. Douglas Adams), YA unless it’s very good, or books that are too literary or poetic (e.g. Klara and the Sun, most magical realism).
