I teach 7th graders in a public school. They’re advanced students, and I need a good book that they can read as a class. We already read The Outsiders. I’m looking for something similar that would challenge them. What suggestions do y’all have?

Life on the Mississippi-Twain (but might be too long for them);, Abridged versions of Count of Monte Cristo or Three Musketeers-Dumas,; Nebuly Coat-JM Falkner: Gogol’s The Nose and Nevsky Prospectt,
Lord of the Flies or Flowers for Algernon. Both were super impactful as a kid
The Eagle of the Ninth by Rosemary Sutcliff, Watership Down by Richard Adams, The Marrow Thieves by Cherie Dimaline
Dread Nation by Justina Ireland; Thirteen Doorways, Wolves Behind Them All by Laura Ruby; Firekeeper’s Daughter by Angelina Bouley
I think I read Ender’s Game for the first time at that age, but I’m not sure if it was appropriate…
Rumble Fish
