Any books similar to the hypotethetical/alternative history military engagements in Alas, Babylon? The building of tension and feeling of an impending major catastrophe had me on the edge of my seat. Not necessarily during nuclear war but that would be a bonus. The description of the tensions increasing and the erroroneous bombing in the Mediterranean leading to a soviet nuclear strike was incredible. Also, the small snippets of news of bombers intercepting subs off the coast of the US and radio transmissions of what remained of American forces after the destruction of major cities was so gripping and interesting. Less interested in the survival aspect or the everyday tasks. Thanks!
