Looking for a book where the main character has to rely on hunting for their main method of food procurement. Setting should be fantasy or historical fiction, fantasy preferred. Technology level not past, say, 1900, i.e. lever action rifles and revolvers at the highest level. Spears and atlatls at the lowest.
One of my favorite books of all time is Assassin’s Apprentice and its sequels. I especially enjoyed the hunting sequences, and am wondering if any other books capture that rustic feeling of relying on your own strength and skill for a meal. I’m also down if they are hunting/stalking monsters or men for coin.
The most important thing to me is that a book is well written, so I steer clear of most YA. Other than that, I am generally open to whatever.
