I’m currently in high school and I want to get back into reading. I used to read a lot in elementary but I stopped right around middle school and haven’t been reading since. I really enjoyed fantasy, but since I’m older now, I want to read some “essential“ classics that you’d expect everyone to know about. I’m looking for a classic book that isn’t too long and is not hard to get into.

Not a “classic” at least not in North America but a book series I loved when I was your age is the CHERUB series. It’s a mix between the school of Harry Potter and the action of James Bond. First book is “The Recruit”
Of Mice and Men
Lord of the Flies
The Hobbit
The Great Gatsby
The Metamorphosis
To Kill a Mockingbird
Slaughterhouse Five
The Old Man and The Sea
All classics. All relatively short. All pretty easy reads.
My favorite classic is [A Tree Grows in Brooklyn](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/dc5de2f5-b132-4c4c-8e49-8bf46005d5da) by Betty Smith
